NEW EXHIBITION AT THE UFFIZI GALLERY IN FLORENCE
This temporary exhibition can be visited at the Uffizi Gallery from june 12 to September 27.
The exhibition has been planned to celebrate five hundred years on from the birth of Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574). Actually the Uffizi direction wanted to celebrate Vasari and Cosimo the Medici Duke (‘the Duke of the exhibition title) and the birth of the Uffizi. Vasari’ starde working at the Uffizi project in 1559-1560. The 16th century word meant offices, as the palace had to be the seat of the offices of thirteen guild and magistrates. The top floor, completed in 1580, was destined to the collection of artworks of the Medici family. The imposing building that can be admired today, has its orings in the close relationship between Cosimo I and his preferred artist, Vasari.
As ever, when the Florence Galleries hold special exhibitions like this we are talking about in this article, an extra fee is added to entrance price tickets.
