This spring, the Doge’s Palace will be home to the extraordinary exhibition of French painter Edouard Manet. One of the first 19th-century artists to approach modern and postmodern-life subjects, he played an important role in the transition from Realism to Impressionism. He spent many intensive years studying in Italy, but there has been little significance placed on his close connection with Italian art, until now.
“Manet: Return to Venice” will explore and highlight his understanding of the heritage of Italy, showing a series of exceptional studies inspired by great 16th-century Venitian art, such as his painting “Olympia,” a clear variation of Titian’s “Venus of Urbino.”
The exhibition will open April 24, 2013 and will run through August 18, 2013, thanks to the help of and collaboration with the Musée D’Orsay in Paris, possessing the largest number of masterpieces by the artist.
Curated by Stéphane Guégan, and the direction of Guy Cogeval and Gabriella Belli, the exhibition is sure to be a major public event . Many people will be rushing to see it, so book tickets in advance.
