The Augusto Exhibition is hosted by Scuderie del Quirinale from 18, October 2013 to 9, February 2014. This new and exciting addition to the museum is designed by Eugenio La Rocca and currated by Eugenio La Rocca, Claudio Parisi Presicce, Annalisa Lo Monaco, Cecile Girorie and Daniel Roger.
The “Augusto” exhibition is an elegant tribute to one of Italy’s most popular and successful emperor, Augustus, whose personal and political life history is entiwined within the displays of the exhibit. The exhibit not only celebrates Augustus’ stunning, life and impressive political campaign to restore the Roman Empire to its original glory, it also celebrates the “2,000th anniversary of Augustus’ death and the birth of a new era” in Italy.

Augustus, born as Gaius Octaviu,  is one of the most important figures in hitory of Rome is the father of  the Roman Empire, whose rule lasted for forty years, longest in Roman history. Augustus found effective solutions to Rome’s political strifes and ended the decaying of the Republic. Using impressive foresight and persistence, Augustus navigated the dark waters of Roman politics and gained control of the Republic.  His reign resulted in the birth of the Roman Empire and an era of peace and stability called Pax Romana (The Roman Peace). While the Empire experienced stability internally, Augustus strived to expand the empire and annexed “Egypt, Dalmatia, Pannonia, Noricum, Raetia, parts of Africa, and expanded into Germany and completed the conquest of Spain”. In addition to the expansion of the Empire, Augustus invested in reforming taxation, military services, and infrastructure of Rome itself. Rome, flourished under Augustus and transformed into a spectacular Empire.

The main objective of the exhibition is to narrate the life of the Roman Empire’s one of the most beloved rulers through carefully chosen “seleection of works of art of the highest artistic quality “. Displays include a wide variety of unique statues, portraits including statues, portraits, household objects in bronze, silver and glass, golden jewlery and precious stones”. This unique blend of artifacts offer visitors a once in alifetime opportunity to learn about an  inspiring time period in the history of Italy and about the man who was responsibile.
