Costume Gallery
The museum which is on the ground floor of the Palazzina della Meridiana was inaugurated in 1983. It houses the costumes of the court from the 18th century to the first twenty years of the 1900s. The edifice is the work of Gaspare Maria Paoletti who was commissioned in 1776 by Peter Leopold of Lorraine.Between 1833 and 1837, the space was divided into 13 rooms (of which six were public rooms) by Pasquale Poccianti. Today further renovation have returned the rooms to their original state, except for the later Savoyard furnishings which consist of rich silk tapestries. The costumes are arranged in chronological order and for reasons of preservation the exhibits are changed every two years. Also of interest are the frescoes in every room.
